Freebuff reviews: what developers say after switching
Weighing DeepAI Code against Freebuff? Here is what people who use Freebuff every day told us this fall, in their own words.
In short
- These are verbatim notes from Freebuff users between September and November 2026, from our Discord, support email and in-app feedback. Names and identifying details are removed.
- The most common theme is access: students and people in countries where paying for AI tools is hard, building things they could not otherwise afford to.
- The next most common is switching. Several users told us they cancelled a Claude subscription or dropped another agent after trying Freebuff.
- Not everyone is happy. Changes to the free allowance this fall drew real criticism, and we read that too.
A comparison table tells you what a product can do. It does not tell you what it is like to use every day. With DeepAI launching DeepAI Code, a lot of people are deciding between two free, ad-supported coding agents, so we went back through this fall’s feedback and pulled out what Freebuff users actually said. These are the kind ones. Each is verbatim apart from removed names, places and project details, and the spelling is theirs.
On switching from paid tools
Overall really appreciate the app, i ditched my claude subscription for it and till now seems worth it
I’ve fixed more bugs in one day than my other tools fixed in two weeks! I have already modernized the UI for two applications and today I’m working on a third. I can’t say enough good things about what you have here.
I’ve tried Bolt, [...] and a handful of other builders over the years, but none of them come close to the speed, clarity, and overall polish Freebuff delivers.
yea i gues freebuff will replace opencode for me. i tested it for one day now and it has done the job better than opencode did.
I took a risk And used your cli on my live project. I must say that it worked absolutely perfect even though I use various frontier models via subscription
We’re officially off Claude now. Freebuff all the way baby!!
On free access for people who cannot pay
This is the theme we hear most, and the one we care about most. A lot of the people writing to us are students, or live somewhere a $20 subscription is a lot of money, or simply cannot pay in US dollars.
For me probably one of the best inventions of the LLM era. I can’t describe how much benefits I got accessing these models for free and it helped my workflows to speed up without even spending a cent.
As someone building a project from [my country], where international payments can be a real barrier, your platform has given me the opportunity to keep working on my dream without that obstacle.
I just wanted to say thank ya’ll for making this amazing app. It allows people that aren’t made of money to use LLM in ways to create. Keep up the good work guys!
as a broke student this will help me a lot I LOVE YOU GUYS
On quality and reliability
It has been reliable, useful, and has helped me complete complex technical and development work efficiently. I especially appreciate the flexibility of having access to different AI models depending on the type of task.
Freebuff has genuinely saved me on multiple projects
On polish and how fast it changes
The FreeBuff CLI UX feels great!! i love the Polish that you guys have put into it so far in recent updates
im usually very critical, but credit where its due. the last update is pretty good. Fast Flash, the hosting, good ui management in generell.
The self scoring the agents now do and the suggested next actions [...] are excellent. Great app!
What reviewers wrote
Independent write-ups are more measured than our inbox, which is why they are worth reading:
- Developers Digest calls Freebuff the easiest hosted option with a real agent loop, and walks through what the ads and data policy cost you in exchange.
- SaaSCity argues that for code that is not sensitive, paying a subscription for an AI coding agent is getting hard to justify.
- Bitdoze built a working site with it in about ten minutes.
- VibecodingHub focuses on how it removes the cost and setup barrier for beginners.
And on DeepAI
In two months of feedback, DeepAI came up once. A user who had just upgraded told us they had been using Claude through DeepAI’s chat and found it slow, with the model stopping to ask them to test things at every step, and asked for the same models inside Freebuff’s agent. That was DeepAI’s chat, not DeepAI Code, which is newer. For the full picture, read DeepAI Code vs Freebuff and what DeepAI’s own users complain about.
