Run Coding Tasks in Parallel in Freebuff Desktop
Two independent jobs do not have to wait for each other. This example gives two chats in one project a task each, and both finish at the same time.
Quick answers
Can Freebuff Desktop work on two tasks at once? Yes. Open two chats in the same project and start both. They appear side by side as tabs.
Does each chat have its own model? Each chat has its own model selector at the bottom of the input box.
Do the chats edit the same folder? Yes. Both chats edit the project folder directly, and git status shows both sets of changes together.
Will they clash? Not if the tasks touch different files. Tell each chat which files to leave alone.
The project
Two stub modules, each with its own tests. All 8 tests fail until the functions are written.
text_stats.py test_text_stats.py temperature.py test_temperature.py
# text_stats.py
def word_count(text: str) -> int:
"""Return the number of words in text."""
raise NotImplementedError
def most_common_word(text: str) -> str:
"""Return the most frequent word, lowercased. Ties go to the word that appears first."""
raise NotImplementedError
temperature.py has celsius_to_fahrenheit, fahrenheit_to_celsius and describe, also stubs.
Start both chats
Open the folder in Freebuff Desktop. Start one chat and send:
Implement the functions in text_stats.py so that test_text_stats.py passes. Do not edit the tests or temperature.py.
While it is still working, open a second chat and send:
Implement the functions in temperature.py so that test_temperature.py passes. Do not edit the tests or text_stats.py.
Both chats worked at the same time. Each reported its own result:
All 5 tests in test_text_stats.py pass. I left the tests and temperature.py untouched. All three tests in test_temperature.py pass. I left test_temperature.py and text_stats.py untouched.
Verify the result
python3 -m unittest git status --short
Ran 8 tests in 0.001s OK M temperature.py M text_stats.py
Only the two modules changed, and the test files are untouched.
Troubleshooting
Both chats need the same file. Run them one after the other, or give each a different file.
Tested in Freebuff Desktop 0.0.184 on 2026-10-30.
